Hi all,
I have problems with my WiFi speed. First I found youtube to load videos quite slowly. After that I used "Oookla Speedtest" to check network speed. I have 6MBit DSL-connection at home, but if I use the speedtest after the WiFi has been switched on for some minutes, I only get ~1Mbits on the Xperia Z3 compact. If I switch WiFi off and on again on the phone, I get the expected ~5Mbits. This happens not only at home, but also at work and at my parents house. WiFi router types are different in all the 3 places.
The problem persists even If I stand 1m away from the router. WiFi reception is shown to be very good on the phone. My old iPhone 4S does not have this problem. Since turning off and on WiFi on the Z3 compact solves that problem for some minutes, I blame it on the phone itself. I already tried turning off and on the phone, as well as factory reset. Problem persists. Any hints?
Thanks a lot!
Solved! Go to Solution.
The update that solves this has now started rolling out but as usual, availability may depend on local and operator approvals so depending on where you bought the phone it may not be available for your phone yet.
you're not alone. I had the same problem with a z1c and also have the same problem with the z3 compact ive just bought today. testing side by side with htc one the sony takes 2-3mb down, the htc 38mb
im using sky broadband, not sure if its related to that, i cant be dealing with this no more though....
Meanwhile I did some more testing ... I have to take back that it happens at work or at my parents house (the latter I´m not sure about yet).
My router at home is a Fritz!Box 7390, my mobile network provider is Vodafone Germany.
What I did so far:
- factory reset phone 2 times => did not work
- factory reset router => did not work
- when problem occured, I tried to test the internal network speed (PC => router => Z3C, using local FTP and TCP server). Was quite slow, about 10MBits. After disabling and re-enabling WiFi I got values around 40MBits ...
- Enabled Flightmode on phone, reenabled WiFi afterwrds => WiFi connection was stable and fast for hours
- switched off "Mobile Data Connection" => WiFi connection was stable and fast for hours
Today I´m going to try a T-Mobile SIM-Card ....
gsusx, is your phone branded by a mobile network provider?
Okay, now I can conform it also happens at work.
I did more testing on that issue, I changed my Vodafone SIM to a Congstar SIM (T-Mobile). The problem also occurs then ... BUT ... instead of seeing a speed limited to ~1Mbit/s the speed ist limited to ~3Mbits ... reproducable. Remember, I await ~5 to 6 Mbits, which I get shortly after disabling and reenabling WiFi.
During testing, I connected the Android Device Monitor via USB, and each time the problem occurs, the logcat output shows something like that:
10-16 09:44:32.519: E/QcConnectivityService(896): Exception trying to remove a route: java.lang.IllegalStateException: command '404 interface route remove rmnet0 default 0.0.0.0 0 109.45.158.104' failed with '400 404 Failed to remove route from default table (No such process)'

The ip address "109.45.164.144" appears to be a vodafone IP ... in case of a T-Mobile SIM a different IP is shown
so it seems to me, that this is a software issue in the Z3 / Z3 compact, something in the network configuration is faulty ... I hope anyone (Sony official?) will take a look at this and gives a statement
Sorry to hear that you're having issues with WiFi.
Could you please test the following things and let me know if any of them helps?
Turn off WiFi optimization under Settings -> Wi-Fi -> [menu] -> Advanced
If enabled, turn off Stamina under Settings -> Power management
Start the phone in safe mode
Hi Richard,
thanks for answering. Stamina mode was never enabled.
While beeing able to enter safe mode, I´m not sure about how to measure the current data rate there, because there is no such thing as speedtest-app then. Can you help me with this?
One way is to download a larger file or app measure the amount of time it takes to download it.
Have you had time to try the wifi optimization option?
I tried with WiFi optimization and without, makes no difference ... also disbabled location based WiFi, WiFi is set to to be active during sleep ... nothing helps ... only thing that makes a difference is Airplane mode or to disable mobile data connection, then WiFi stays fast.
I will try safe mode in a few hours when I´m back home and let you know about it ...
btw, firmware version is 23.0.A.2.98
phone is branded by Vodafone Germany ...
Thanks for testing!
But it's very strange that it helps to turn off mobile data. Are you sure that this helps every time? If it does, could you also try the phone on GSM only and WCDMA only under Settings -> More -> Mobile networks -> Network mode with mobile data enabled?
