As the titles says, I'd like to know which brand of glass is seated on the Xperia Z3 compact, for front as well as rear? Or is it just generic tempered glass?

No, there's no way to check which glass you have that i know of.
Hi DeGraaff,
My Z3 Compact shattered on its own while I was texting. My Z3 Compact feels hot sometimes. I was texting a friend, as I normally would, I heard a crackling sound and the back of the phone felt strange. I turned it around to find the back of the phone shattered. I sent it to Sony to have a repair and they charged me £60. They wouldn't believe me.
In my opinion the glass in the z3 is rubbish, this is what's happened to mine:-
1) picked my phone up first thing in the morning to find a crack across 2/3rds of the front screen - it had spontaneously cracked overnight.
2) dropped it face down onto a piece of gravel on tarmac from knee height - broke front screen.
3) discovered back screen star-cracked - probably sat on something.
4) dropped face down from a table onto tiled floor - 2 long cracks across front screen.
I've had 'tough' phones since an Ericsson T10 and this one is by far the least durable in terms of glass. It's always had a soft plastic case since I had it because the glass back makes it so prone to sliding off things. If Sony made it with a sensible grippy back and decent front screen it would be an awesome phone as the rest of it is excellent - great battery life, powerful and easy to use.
Update 11/17: I've had my z3c 2 years, bought a cheap case off the internet, never had a screen protector, and it is still fine. Been dropped several times, maybe 3 - 4 ft max, onto ceramic tile or concrete. No issues. It's stupid to expect to be able to order it with a specific type of glass if they used more than one type in manufacturing, as it is to expect Sony to keep track of a detail like that. Pretty much every single smart phone that gets released has a spat of users reporting broken glass. It's likely remote incidents improperly, or dishonestly in some cases, attributed to the quality of the product rather than carelessness or misfortune. Mine has been awesome, like the dude says, get protection or coverage.
