Waterproof warranty repair?

Took phone to carrier store as the touch function would no longer work. Previous night gave the phone its usual weekly wipe over using a damp cloth, when Power button (Lock) kept failing, then the volume buttons, and then it switched off, needing me to hold power and volume up buttons, around an hour later to switch it on.

Store clerk showed me Red strips indicating water damage? And also politley told me "its dead/knackered/useless"
Flaps are always checked and shut, and a magnet charger is used also, sim flap has been opened once and mem card twice! but as i state they are always checked!!
The phone is still under warranty but is this covered? I know its waterproof* notice the asterisk! but for wiping it with a damp cloth which has been done weekly for the past year why now?

I'm sorry to hear that, you have to contact your local Xperia Care and request a vacuum test

Thanks for the response, naturally i assume there will be a cost, but would my device be covered under warranty, or if not what will i be looking to pay?
