Using Spotify though car stereo

Hi,

I have a Sony stereo in my car and want to be able to listen to spotify from my Z3 compact through my car stereo.  I tried connecting with a 3.5mm cable from headphone outlet to aux in outlet on my stereo but my phone displays something about the headset not being compatible.  I can hear crackling in the car speakers when I move the connection on my phone but no music plays through them.  Does anyone know where I'm going wrong please? Do I need to buy another type of cable?

I've seen this issue before with a Z3. Solution, try a new/different aux cable, make sure it has 2-3 rings and it's not a cheap cable. also

settings > apps > all > smartconnect > clear data > restart the phone.
