unusable videofiles

When I had the Z3 for only a few months, everything was working fine. After a few updates it seems as though the videoformat has changed, because I can't import them in any software on my computer. Windows Media Player won't play them, Sony Vegas editing software won't accept it, Avidemux won't convert it. When I open the folders with videofiles from the Z3, no image of them can be displayed. It suddenly seems completely incompatibable with anything on Windows. How do I get to use the stills and video shot with my Z3 again?

Are you sure the files aren't corrupted?

No. But then the question is: how come ALL mp4 files recorded after a set of upgrades are corrupted, and what can I do to un-corrupt them.
By the way: the files do play on the Xperia itself. Which leads me to believe I must be able to export them somehow.

You're right: WMP on the other computer has no problems playing the mp4-files. I can't check importing in Vegas on it, because the software isn't on that computer. Any idea why the recently updated Windows 7/64 computer with all the right software is giving me such a headache while the non-updated Windows 8 machine seems to have no problems? I hope I don't have to reinstall Windows.

I should have thought of the other computer myself. I thought that, since the old files do play on the W7 computer, there must be something wrong with the new files. I still think something much have changed. But what?

Hard to tell, perhaps you have a program that did that (on your PC)
