Two quick questions

This is for a guy who switched from iPhone to the z3 compact.
Question 1: in the messaging app only one side of the messages is showing, just messages received, not sent. Is there a way to have on one screen both sides of the conversation?

Question 2: is there a way to have banner alerts on the screen like the iPhone? Where when the phone is asleep and receives a message it lights up and displays the received message?

Thanks in advance! Grinning_Face

So I went through downloaded apps, found an app called "Zedge", didn't know what it was. Removed. All messages appear now. Thank you so much for all your help uliwooly and friends!

You should be able to see both sides

settings > apps > all > messaging > clear data > restart your phone > check again

So I cleared the data and restarted. The messages still only show received messages.

@uliwooly
Thanks for all the suggestions! Never thought to check the app store

The reason for that is most likely your friends had iphones and they are still sending you messages through imessage.

That's the thing, it sends as a text on my phone, and he recieves it, and when he responds my message disappears.

Hi Ryukah

Question 1:

Sorry mate - can't explain that. I had a vague recollection that when i first got my z3 compact, I had to tweak the messaging app to my liking but have looked and can only find settings within the app itself and there's nothing that I can see in there to explain what you're experiencing.

For example, if it had an email type folder hierarchy, that might explain seeing Sent messages only... but I can find no way to view in that manner.

Question 2:

I use something called "SMS Popup", which I think does exactly what you are after. THere's a slight problem when using it with android 4.4.4 though - it used to be that it would automatically mark a received message as read, after you had dismissed the pop-up (or replied etc)... but for some reason, this auto-mark as read action doesn't work on 4.4.4.

Having said that, the author makes this clear (first point mentioned on the app's page in Google Play).

Otherwise, it's a great little app. Lightweight and does what it says on the tin, etc.
