I would like to use TalkBack, for which I presume I need to enable TTS, but when I select the "Text To Speach" Option, I just get a constant:
"Default Language Status, Checking......."
The "Speach Rate" and "Listen To An Example" options are also greyed out.
I've restarted a few times, but it's just the same. It's a new phone, I've had it 2 days, and I've installed all available system updates.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

OK, I've got it sorted. I stupidly expected the device to come with an English TTS voice pre-installed, as with my I-phone, but this was not the case. I've now downloaded Google Text-To-Speech from the play store, installed a few voices, and away we go. I must say that as a visually impaired user, I found getting started with my I-phone considerably easier than with this android phone, the I-Phone was basically blind-friendly out of the box, come on Android, catch up!. However, now that I've finally got it going, Android's TalkBack seems to be pretty good. And of course, NO NEED TO DEAL WITH I-TUNES ANY MORE!!
Thanks for your help people.
Made no difference I'm afraid, still can't enable TTS, so am unable to use the TalkBack accessibility option.
I don't seem to be getting a lot of support from this support forum for this particular problem. The suggestions from uliwooly were much appreciated, but unfortunately have made no difference. Are there any Sony tech staff here that could give me some help? I have very poor sight and really need to get this working.
@Andy147 Perhaps the language you have selected is not supported by google. You should try to manually select a language. If you want to use a different language, it is possible with a 3rd party app but not sure if for free.
