Text or SMS blocking in KitKat

With Jelly Bean I used an app (3rd party) from the Play Store to block text/SMS messages which worked fine.  I then upgraded my Z1 Compact to KitKat 4.4.2.  The app wouldn't block text messages anymore.  Tried a few other apps.  Nothing I tried worked.  So I started to read up (including the Forum) and I don't know the credibility of this - it appears that text/SMS messages cannot be blocked with KitKat on Sony?  If this is true, is there a workaround?

I am not using that kind of app but you should try this:

Hello

I saw the one you mentioned, but I had so many bad experiencess by that time, that I thought text/SMS blocking was not possible in KitKat with Z1 Compact yet.  I will try it sometime.

Thank you!

I'm not an expert, but I suspect that this is due to a change to the underlying way that SMSs are handled in Android 4.4 (nothing to do with Sony, https://developer.android.com/about/versions/kitkat.html).  Only one application can "write" to the SMS provider (many can read), the app that can do this is the one defined as the default for SMS in the settings.  The devloper blog goes into a lot more technical details.

Yes, the blocking of SMS/text messages is a KitKat issue.  The default message engine (which read/write messages) must be able to block it.  So one cannot use one text handler and then trying to block with another app.

Both SMS Blocker AWARD WINNER and GO SMS Pro work fine.  They "feel" a bit diffenrent though.  So it's a personal choice.

Conversation back up app is the solution. Download after installation change settings to delete messages after back up is complete. Send to email or google drive so you have a record Incase of criminal harassment. requires new file name each archived conversations or will over write last back up. Do the conversation back up before looking at texts. You will never have to see them. You could havevavtrusting party review them to make sure the other person is not escalating toward actual physical harm. intentions. Set to delete after backup...yahoo
