Tethering/hotspot problem with Z3 after Lollipop update (23.1.A.0.690)

Since doing the update, I can no longer share my Internet connection with a computer, using a Wi-Fi hotspot or direct connection (USB tethering).

In both cases, I can still set it up and my Mac connects via Wi-Fi (but with 'Internet unreachable') or USB (red in Network settings) - even though I have a working connection that I can use fine on the phone itself.

It worked fine with Kitkat and the APN settings are unchanged.

At least one other person on Xda-developers has confirmed the same problem so far, and I suspect a lot of other people may not be aware as yet, or have not even realised the problem lies with the phone and not their data connection. Suffice to say, I am sure many more people will be noticing this in the coming days/weeks.

To give further information, I am on Three (UK) with the One Plan that offers unlimited tethering.

Advice?

Yes, i've tried to connect to the hotspot with my pc and my mac and both don't work.
Rsetting the acces point names to default doesn't work always (to be exact, most of the times). So i end up to use my USB cable.
It's a shame for a large company as Sony to let bugs unresolved for a long time like this.

Have you tried to enter a new SSID that you've never used before in the phone? I also recommend that you try without entering any extended characters in the SSID and password, try using only A-Z and 0-9.

If that doesn't help, does WiFi work in your phone if you connect your phone to a WiFi network?

Has this issue been fixed yet?

I am a Three customer with an Xperia Z (original), and it tethers through USB but has never tethered through the Hotspot.

I am in the market for a new phone and want the Xperia Z5 - however, I need to know Three and Sony will be compatible for tethering.

If I do the "More, Setting, rest to default" palava, I can tether one device, once. When I try to tether a second device I get the webpage about not being on a tethering plan - even though I am.

Hi,
i have a Z3 Compact and i live in Italy. Wind is the mobile operator.
Wifi hotspot doesn't work before and after update to Marshmallow. I upgraded few days ago hoping to solve the problem. Only thetering USB for me.
Another BIG problem with my phone is a noisy "click" i hear during every call, with a interval of 5-15 seconds each other.
This problem is always been there from the first day i used my phone.
It is very disappointing because i often need to ask many time to repeat words during EVERY conversation.
Another problem is the data traffic in mobile: very often it doesn't go.
With Marshmallow appeared a orrible pink shadow in the center of pictures.
Do you think you will solve or have i to bring my phone in assistance?
Thank you

I'm having problems with tethering also.   The phine has lollipop on and tethering is problematic to say the least, either via USB or Bluetooth.

If you speed along the update, that would be great.   The workarounds that have been suggested, including rooti ng the phone and editing an obscure setting require alot of work for someone who is not familiar with Android debugging.

I did try to follow this  more complex approach, however, the Z3 won't root even in USB debugging mode.

For the record, I'm with TalkMobile on contract.   I've checked APN settings and they appear to be correct (Talk WAP), but still have problems.
