Syncing Google Contacts

Is there a way to sync only specific groups of contacts from Google?

I don't want my 1000+ contacts on my phone. Only a specific subset.

On a computer access your Gmail then your contacts, create a new group and add contacts. On your phone, access your phonebook then menu, filter, Google, select the group.
