Charging of Z3 in car

Hi

I've had  the Z1, and experienced issues with charging in my car. I used a Brodit holder for the Xperia Z1 with with cigarette charger feeding the handset power through the magnetic charging pins on the side. I experienced times where the henadset reported back to me, that the handset didn't receive enough power to be able to charge the handset. I've read several places about others having this issue too. Now I've bought the Xperia Z3, and am not buying a new Brodit holder. Instead I want to buy a magnetic charger cable, and use a cigarette charger, with USB plugs. I already have on rated to (I think) 1000mA.

My thoughts are:

1. Was it the Xperia Z1 handset, that had issues with charging? (I never xperienced this issue with the dock that followed in the package)

2. The Sony chager for Xperia Z1/Z3 is rated to 1500mA. Is the 1000mA cigarette charger gonna cut it? I'm looking at a cigarette chager rated at 3100mA, with two USB plugs, but I have no idea whether the magnetic cable can even handle that amount of power? I've read of others having issues with cables getting hot, and handsets being disabled by charging this way. The cable I'm looking at is 1 meter and not a original Sony part, but I have no other info about fx how many amps it can handle.

3. What charging method is the most efficient? Megnetic or USB port?

Best regards

Frank

I was using Hama dual usb charger with 2.1A and 1.5A. It was able to charge Z1 while using gps and screen on using magnetic cable and 2 Amp port.

You will get similar notifications with the Z3.

Using the micro USB cable will charge your phone a lot faster than the magnetic cable.

Thankz for your reply. How come that the handsets have this issue? Is it because the the magnetic charging can't follow with the usage, or is it something else. I thinkt it's a weird behaviour since it seems like charging is disabled sometimes, and the battery drain is similar to when unplugged from charging. It's like when the handset has recieved some charging, it simply denies further charging. Like it's overheating or something. I would really like to use the magnetic charging to avoid having to open up to the USB port every time I need to charge it in the car. Man, and I thought the magnetic charging where more efficient. Must have misread something online Slightly_frowning_Face

My model is a D6603, and the charger states 5V 1.500mA. Is it then a Quick Charge 2.0? Or should I read his post as ONLY the models SO-01G, SOL26 and 401SO are supporting it no matter Volt specification?

Tested both and no difference in charge time using magnetic charger or. USB charger2.1A is 33% faster than the 1.5A at charging Z3.

Awesome you guys. Thankz alot. I will then go ahead, and buy both a 3.1 Amp cigarette charger with two USB ports and a magnetic cable. Thankz for your time (testing and all).

Best regards
