Hi @Hana_tenderhearted, I am sorry to hear about this.
If your phone is damaged to the extent that it is not able to start up, I am afraid that you will not be able to retrieve any photos from the phone. However, if you have done a backup of the user data on your phone, you can transfer this backup to another Xperia device using Transfer in Xperia Companion, that way you will get access to the photos in the backup.
In Xperia Companion, Click on the Transfer-option > Click next > Click on Sony > Click on Choose backup > Pick the backup you want to transfer and click next > Follow the on screen-instructions.
Another thing you can check is if your photos have been backed up to your Google account. In order to do this, go to https://www.google.com/photos/about/ and log in using your Google credentials.
