smart backlight doesn't work

I have sony xperia Z2 BUT the smart backlight control doesn't work.why?

I had switched on smart backlight control but even I hold the phone 📱 the screen turn off

that works on accelorometers and not by looking at it

it detects if your holding it by the movement and keeps the light on so if you put it on the side it will turn off regardless if you look at it
