Is it possible that Sony (or Google) fixed the .nomedia bug in 4.3 on the Z1?
After updating my device to this fw everything is working fine!
I am not familiar with the .nomedia bug you are referring to, can you please elaborate?

I had the same problem and i found a solution. First, place the .nomedia file in the folder you want to hide for Album. Then convert the folder in hidden (you have to add a point before the folder name, for example "DOCUMENT" to ".DOCUMENT". Open Album and the images for that folder are gone. And the best part, now rename the folder so it no longer is hidden, for example "DOCUMENT" again, and the images are still gone for Album!. I found this ttying every method, perhaps someone finds it useful.
Sony! this is bad. I agree this should be a flagship phone!
And these media apps you call extremely well, if it doen't have a simple settings menu where you can hide/unhide photo folders or music folder or video folders than that is f##cing sad!
Even my HTC had this feature since I first had a smartphone from them in 2000!!!
How hard is it for you programmers to implement such a feature???
You dont expect a user to have to copy strange filenames and reboots to get what he wants right?
I finally toke the step to change to Sony from being a HTC fan for ages....but I think I have to resell my Z2 again for an HTC and blog every internet forum how amateur Sony's apps are....
Update it now soon~, please!
i encounterd this problem after the kitkat-upgrade. this i really a mess! the album app is nice, but with this problem it is not useable anymore... it's a "downgrade" in some way! i will try to go back to android 4.3.
Hello,
does this method still work post kitkat and the new album update.. pls let me know..

this does not work always mind you. what worked for me was the exclude option in quickpic, which is an app for viewing pictures. you 'long press' a folder (in my case the photos were in the internal storage) and open up the options from the top. this created a nomedia folder in the internal storage.
here are the steps i used
1.download quickpic from playstore
2.open quickpic
3.long press a folder
4.select exclude
5.folder is hidden in .nomedia
