My Z5 dual SIM running 7.1.1, hangs after unlocking via pattern

My Xperia Z5 Dual SIM running 7.1.1 after two and half years, stopped 

android.process.media keeps stopping ( x Close App does not work)

You tube has stopped (x Close App does not work)

Google Play Services has stopped (x Restart App does not work) 

What I tried: 

Booting Safe Mode - issue

Accessing via Xperia Companion for the mac also does not work, as the default on connecting defaults to Charge this device. Any touchscreen function do not respond. 

Is there a factory reset or hardware reset work ?  I am unable to access the touch sceen finctions 

I just want to throw up my hand and change hardware platform or even brand 

Any other solution ?

An Update:

I used an obsquere poorly documented procedure to repair/reinstall fresh 7.1.1 from Xperia Companion on the mac, and keeping the Volume key down, till it started to download latest image from the servers (where ever they are)
