My Device shuts down when I plug it into the charger, and at random times

Hi My Xperia E6653 has three main problems:

1. it shuts down when I plug it into the charger, which renders the phone useless at low charge or overnight when I rely upon it for alarms and phonecalls and other notifications.

2. It shuts down at random times - I assume that it is some setting / safety setting on the phone to prevent it from damage, but it's not certain how this can be prevented.

3. The phone gets hot - I mean it's uncomfortable to hold it for long periods of time when this happens. The user guide says it's "normal", however I'm not aware of this occurring on other phone and certainly can't be helpful for battery life.... and then issue 1. above becomes a real problem for useability.

I'm sorry to hear this.

Does your device turn off every time you connect it to a charger? Do you see any pattern in when the device shuts down or get hot? Does it happen when using the camera or any specific app?

What you can try is to reboot your device to safe mode to see if one of you downloaded apps may be the cause of this behavior as these will be temporarily disabled in this mode.

I would also recommend that you temporarily remove any SIM and SD card from your device to make sure they are not causing this behavior.

Thanks for getting back to me Emil,

The phone shuts down everytime I plug the charger into the charging port, I've also tried this in safety mode after your advice below, however it still shutdown and required restart.

It's also quite hot even whilst charging and in safety mode / switched off, which has had a dramatic effect on reducing my battery charge (it's down 70% over the course of a morning without usage).

I've also removed all sim cards and SD cards from the device and plugged it in again and it's acted in the same manner - shutdown.

Any further assistance you can give me would be appreciated. Very frustrating.

Further to the above, examples of times my phone shuts down at random times include inputting new contacts, during phonecalls, when it's in my pocket and when opening.

All these instances there was no other apps open / running at the same time - this is a brand new phone still under warranty, I would have thought this wouldn't be an issue.

@Brian10, thanks for the update. What you can try is to perform a software repair using Xperia Companion.

If you are unable to, or if you are still experiencing the same behavior with your device after doing so, I recommend that you get in contact with your Local support team for assistance with having your device sent in to an authorized service center for further troubleshooting and repair.
