I contacted Xperia Support Center and the reply I got was as follows:

11. Do not connect the phone yet! Note! At this instant, the phone must be off and disconnected from the computer.
12. Connect the USB cable to the computer, not to the phone.

15. If this happens, disconnect the phone from the cable, power off it and repeat from step 12.
16. Follow the instructions on the screen. When the repair is finished, disconnect the device and then start the device again.
17. Select Next. If the repair was successful, the message will appear that device has been successfully updated appears.
18. Select Finish.
We would also request you to backup all your data before repairing your phone software.
To back up content using the Backup and restore application: -
1. If you are backing up content to a USB storage device, make sure the storage device is connected to your device using the appropriate cable. If you are backing up to an SD card, make sure the SD card is properly inserted in your device.
2. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
3. Find and tap Back up & restore.
4. Tap Back up, then select a backup destination and the data types that you want to back up.
5. Tap Back up now.
6. Enter a password for the backup, then tap OK.
PS: Sony is asking to repair ,that might resolve the problem. So you can try the above steps. The only possible way right now.:smileyangry:
Also, I found out that this bug isn't exclusive to Sony. Other smartphones have this too with their own Lollipop updates.
I hope they can help us out. Because I don't want the tedious process of backing up/restoring and repairing the firmware. I'll stick with my USB port charging for now, I guess. 😕
I did not preform any factory reset or repair, all I have done is trying different USB cables, some cables can charge up to 73%, some 82%, some 93%, only the very short SONY USB cable and a 1 meter long Nokia USB cable can charge up to 100%. It also seems to me that the shorter the cable, the higher % it can charge to.
I am surprised, the charging cable length really seems to matter as user "ZzzzzYF" already noted.
Tried the following setups:
1) Original SONY wall charger + 1m USB cable + SONY DK32 docking station,
and I can charge up to ~90% then the blinking starts
2) Original SONY wall charger + 15cm USB cable + SONY DK32 docking station,
and it charges like a charm up to 100%, no blinking!
So it seams to be related to the charging voltage and/or current that gets to the phone....
Hi All,
Just had this start happening on my Z1C, oddly though it updated to Lollipop about 3 weeks ago and has been charging fine until wednesday of this week.
Phone was at 100% on Wednesday morning after charging with the magnetic dock overnight.
On Wednesday after noon I found the phone had locked up and wouldn't repond to any button presses (even power & volume up didn't work) so I reset it with the little button under the sim cover.
Phone booted up with around 60% battery, so my initial thought that I'd run it down somehow was wrong.
From that moment on though it's not charging correctly - magnetic dock doesn't work, just flashes between charging and not charging rapidly.
USB from computer does the same.
USB with mains charger and the phone on works up until 90% then starts the flashing routine, after a couple of hours it just about managed to get to 91%. (accompanied by the screen repeatedly flashing on and off).
USB with mains charger and the phone off seems to result in the phone actually loosing charge, I'm sure that after turning off at 91% last night it had dropped to 85% this morning.
I've tried reflashing with SUS and PC Companion but nothings helped.
I'm sure it stems from it locking up...
I've contacted the Sony service center and they're recommending returning the handset which I'm a bit reluctant to do, although it is under warranty.
SD card contents are not affected by Phone Repair process, so the backup data will be there after repair for restoation. As far as I know, gaming data are not saved in the back up.
Any experience which type of power supply works well and which not, the original 1500 mA or do I need a 2000 mA from a tablet to compensate the bug? And does it matter if a cable is USB 1 or 2? Or do I need a charge-only cable with no data support and the ability to supply a charging current above 1000 mA? Anyone teste this?
Another question, when signing in on google play when playing a game, it might be that the data will be saved on google play right?
