Purchased the phone from Sony store in San Diego. After Sony sending me the Lollipop update it will not charge past 85%. I have tried the repair with my computer, factory reset and a reset holding the volume up button and power button at the same time. I have also used different power cord and chargers. I have been taliking with Sony support and not getting anywhere except they want me to send the phone to Texas for repairs. I run a business and that is not acceptable to be without a phone for a week plus. So far they have refused any refund or replacement.
Yes tried it all. Last night I tried the charger from my wifes LG G3. My problem is FIXED! It charged to 100% overnight for the first time since the 5.0 update. Now I need to try my charger again tonight without the magnetic dock again. Last time it did not charge past 85% on the cord or on the dock. I'll update tomorrow what happens.
I don't think this is a hardware related issue. I'm having the same issue as the rest of you.
I use the official magnetic dock to charge my phone using an Amazon USB cable, with KitKat my phone was charging completely fine without any problem whatsoever, however as soon as I upgraded to Lollipop these issues started to happen.
Everytime I place my Xperia Z2 in the Magnetic Dock the phone starts a strange loop of charging-discharging, the led notification and charging icon starts to blink non-stop and the phone won't charge at all, everytime this happens (which happens a lot) I have to restart or shutdown the phone then wait a few minutes then start the phone again.
This did not happen under KitKat, so definitely this is a issue with Lollipop.
Btw. The USB cable works just fine, I tried this cable in a couple of other smarthphones without any issue at all.
Just to add to the experiences being reported. I have tried fresh installs, resets, no apps, all apps, different charging cables (sony and non-sony) and its always pretty much the same. It charges to 85% (although once I got it to 90%) and then does the blinking thing... What other information could we provide that might help resolve the issue?
Someway it looks like hardware related issue. I just got my Z2 back from service and they written the motherboard was faulty and they changed it. Now in fact the system version didn't change it charges to 100% in 3:20 hour. Maybe some series had defect (mine was 14 W15, now I got 14 W44).
If service is no option for you, try as said above. Factory reset phone with inside menu and charge it OFF till 100%, than open and start loging into googles etc.
An expensive device with some good feaures but poor support methink! However all these charging issues via magnetic, and now corded plug in charger with Lollipop, is just terrible for a company like Sony. Sound levels and call quality are also poor. I have had many smart devices over the years, HTC, Samsung, Motorola and i-phone, the Sony is the most problematic. They should not rollout a major ROM softfare change like Lollipop that is so full of bugs!
Sadly I think the lesson is dont buy Sony any longer, I wont be again...!
I think they won't just knock on your door, to make something happen you need to make some steps first. Sony is the only company that makes so many updates and improovements of its software. I had samsung Galaxy S I (2011) and I didn't get a single update cause samsung was already crazy bout launching his Galaxy S II, so I don't think other companies are client oriented. Sony always has a solution or advice and contacts people within days, which other companies don't. That's my opinion and my Xperience taken from life and having many phones not only samsung or motorola or even LG.
I don't agree with the Sony bashing.
Sure, it looks like some Z2 owners (including myself) have a serious issue that resulted from the Android 5 upgrade. I am pretty sure that Sony is moving to sort this out. For the rest the relase is very slick and stable, so clearly it has been tested very well.
We are of course looking into this issue and why it happens for some users. As soon as i have more information i will let you know.
