High Data usage by Android OS - Help!?

Hi, I am seeing high mobile data usage by "Android OS".

What is it due to?

Can help me please?

Is the hight mobile data usage by "Android OS" at the background due to :

a) Backup & reset or,

b) Auto-sync by Google

Appreciate your help as for only about 8 days into using this phone, I have already chalked up 106mb of mobile data usage by "Android OS" in the background. At this rate, my mobile data will be gone in no time.

Oh, that would mean that we are not really using a smartphone since data access is integral to how one would use smartphone?

Anyway I have disabled both "backup & reset" as well as "Auto-sync". It seems that the data usage for "Android OS" is very low already... But this would just mean that we are really not able to make use of such features?

That is your opinion - one that I don't share

I don't sync anything - I keep my data on my phone or my laptop, I don't use facebook or google services of any kind as they are intrusive - privacy is an issue and I don't wish to be profiled - but I still have a smartphone

I have noticed excessive background data usage by the Android OS on my Xperia Z. The Android OS background data cannot be disabled seperately. If I disable all background data completely my emails, etc won't come in automatically. The Android OS background data has clocked 121MB in two weeks time and is prone to pick up especially in battery Stamina mode when the screen is switched on (and thus when the mobile data is enabled). It seems to download about 8MB at a time and then it's quiet for a long time. I have disabled all other apps/updates/usageinfo/email/etc the confirm this as well.

Other similar Android phones only use 1-2MB background data per day.

Please assist.

So far Sony hasn't responded. Really hope Sony Support can quickly reply and help us.

Many applications could be using those services in the phone. Have you recently restored any backup? What sync services are you using in the phone?

Dear Sony Support,

I have the same problem as KrigeE has reported.

My Sony Xperia Z Android OS background data usage over a period from 2 Dec to 7 Dec 2013 has come up to 436MB!

I cannot afford for this continue.

Please can you advise what this data usage is for and more importantly how I can reduce it.
