Goodbye Z5 Compact

Goodbye Z5 Compact

After 2 years of ownership, I am finally getting rid of my useless Z5 Compact. In almost 20 years of having a mobile phone, this is officially the worst I have ever owned.

The camera is absolute garbage!! I can not believe how bad the camera on this phone actually is. The quality it rubbish and the speed it takes a picture is even worse. By the time a picture has been taken, the moment has been lost.

General performance is laggy and pitifully slow, with delays in even trying to use the keyboard. WiFi connectivity is useless with the list of available connections being from hours previously.

The only bright side I have had with my phone is working as a hand warmer as it gets so hot.

After every update that Sony release, the battery life gets worse and worse and now not even getting 12 hours without needing a charge; even when not being used.

In the 2 years of having this phone, I have tried everything to improve the performance. I have done umpteen factory resets. I have stripped back the number of apps that are installed. I have disabled everything I can and nothing makes much of a difference.

I am now the owner of a Samsung S7, and that is everything the Z5 isn't. The camera speed and quality is fantastic. No lag even with all apps installed and running.

I honestly wish I had never had this phone and it has tarnished my opinion of Sony products. When looking for a replacement to this, I never even contemplated looking at a Sony device. So, goodbye Sony, it's been a traumatic 2 years and I don't think I will ever be back.

Looking at this forum, there seems to be multiple problems with this device that Sony just can't seem to fix. So, so long and thanks for all the fish......

If Australia had a XZ release, I would have contemplated buying it.

edit: XZ Compact

I typically don't buy phones unless my current device breaks. Previously it used to be because the device became so slow running Symbian.

My first Android was a X10 Mini Pro, and I replaced it with a Samsung XCover, because that was the first of the IP rating devices in Australia. I didn't need to, but I wanted one. The XCover2 was my next device, and that kept me going until my work arounds for increasing the 800MB user data just couldn't cope with app updates.

The day it lagged out, was at the exact time the Z5 Compact released. I didn't need a flagship grade device, just something Water and Dust resist, so I did a quick run around in the retail outlets, and found the Z3 Compact. I bought one on ebay, and the day I got it,  I sent it back due to DOA microphone. I also used it as a test to buy 2nd hand electronics on ebay. Usually I buy my gadgets new - but I needed something ASAP. An hour later, i was at the Telstra store going to buy a Z3 compact...  When they said... ' we  stopped selling them today, because the z5 compact just arrived at the store and are being taken out of the delivery room '....  An extra $600 later and only wanting mediocre, I ended up with the smallest IP68 available on the Australian domestic market and the  stores first customer to buy it.  2 hours after being the owner and having the device on charge... I flashed the Generic 32.0.A.6.152 and removed the Telstra garbage. I then finally turned the device on after 8 hours from purchase and finishing the firmware refit.

I've had almost 0 problems. The first app I deleted was Facebook. Then did a clean up of Cracker, Linked In, Amazon, AVG, Office Suite, File Commander.... And i think there was one more... But can't remember...

Then I changed Googles junk and disabled everything. The remaining Google apps were Google Drive and Maps... Also PlayStore....  A year later, I bought a 2nd Z5C on ebay to learn Android development, because I got sick of the default **bleep** that isn't needed that Google likes changing.

I don't see myself having to replace my Z5C until Android no longer support SDK 25 Nougat... Or I have butterfingers and drop and shatter the display

editedit: the x10mini and XCover2 are both still wotking and I use them as remote proxies
