Fingerprint scanner not working at all

Can somebody please explain why over the weekend, the fingerprint scanner on my Z5 Compact has stopped working?  Has always worked just fine ever since I got the phone last year. Now when I put a registered finger or thumb against it the power button, absolutely nothing happens.

I've checked in Settings -> Security and there are no longer any fingerprint manager options. I'm confused as to why it's just vanished. The fingerprint manager app is still installed and active apparently but there are no longer any options for adding or deleing fingerprints.

This is extremely annoying as I used the feature a lot, not just for unlocking the phone but also accessing online banking etc.

Any help very much appreciated.

I've installed that additional app as you suggested and it's made a difference to be sure! The fingerprint manager app is now running at several megs. 

Unfortunately there's still no mention of it in the settings menu. 

Definitely getting somewhere though. This is my first ever experience of Android so am a bit clueless tbh. Was iPhone for years. Appreciate your help with this.

Hmm, I look into this tomorrow, how you'll be able to start the manager. There's sure a way.

But contact your local service too...

I'm on .253 firmware and secured my phone with fingerprint lock but some time it displays the message on lock screen that "Finger print hardware not available" to solve this every time I have to restart my.
Is this any fault in hardware or software bug?
Any permanent solution?

Having same problem on my Xperia Z5 dual E6633, just updated last friday with my computer, on saturday may fingerprint was working just fine. Sunday morning was stopped working and option was not there any more in setting. I reinstall everything with compagnon program ont my computer, option still not there. I did resent from my phone, option still not there.

Two day after I can see fingerprint manager in : setting/security/ ????? I the option came back by him selfe ???

I click ont Finger print manager (fingerprint unlocking not activated), click continue to activate, enter my, click next and say ''ENROLLMENT WAS NOT COMPLETED (fingerprint enrollment didn't work. Try again or use a different finger). 

But it never read my finger ????, click OK and went back to security menu ????

Android version : 6.0.1

Build number : 32.2.A.0.253

Update for you all then.

I phoned sony support and they said it was faulty and needed a repair which would take a week.  Couldn't go a week without  a phone as I use it for business as well.  So I went back to Carphone Warehouse where I bought it from in the first place and they offered to repair under warranty and lend me a phone in the meantime. Two weeks later they sent me a brand new handset. They'd been unable to fix it.  Apparently it was software issue (which I suspected anyway).

So I immediately backed up the new handset, updated Android and all the Sony gubbins, and so far it's been fine. Everything workng exactly as it should.

Sorry that the above isn't much help to anyone, but if yours has packed up like mine did, it might just be easier to take it back under warranty.  Just make sure you backup to PC first and check that the backup has actually worked. When I backed mine up it said completed, yet when I went to restore it, there was no sign of in the Companion software......

Just today the fingerprint scanner disappeared, it doesn't even exist in the security settings options.
Very frustrating as only had phone for a few weeks.
Anyone had a similar experience and what the procedure is to reinstate it?

To add to this I've noticed that the volume button (up and down) and the camera button are not working. It had also stopped vibrating. This is massively frustrating on a 'flagship' phone. What adds to the problem is in out of the country and have do wait to visit a Vodafone store when iv get back. Had anyone else encountered this issue?
