different notification signals

Is it not possible to have different notification signals on Xperia Z?
I.e. One for sms, one for email etc.
I can only have one and the same notification signal no matter what type of messages I receive.

Yes it's possible, but you need to change the different notification tone for each application itself. For example, if you want another notification sound for text messages you need to change this via the messaging application. Go to Messaging > Menu button (three vertical dots) > Settings > Notification tone.
