Controls on JBL Android Headphone

I have purchased a set of JBL Synchros S100a headphones and I discovered that they are not working properly with my Sony Xperia Z1 Compact.

Once connected the set works fine, but if i adjust the volume down if will very fast switch to mute and then none of the controls will work.

10 mins after the purchase I went back to the shop and the assistant was nice enough to change a set. After a short while I realized that the new st has the same problem. If I unplug and plug back works fine for a while but then the issue is back.

Is this a bug, incompatibility, JBL bad product?

I used them on an older Xperia T LT30 running on 4.3 no problems at all...

So is the Z1C not the headphones. 

Anyone any sugestion?

Did a full update service. 

Problem still there...

Could it be that the head set I have has some jack problems? 

Any ideas?

I'll try got to Sony shop and check on another device.

Went back to Sony shop and they confirmed is a Sony and Kitkat issue. So I am stuck with a pair of headphones that I can not use. The weird thing is that it works couple of minutes and the gone.

JBL confirmed incompatibility and offered full refund.
