Contacts stock app crashes

Hi there,

Since I updated to marshmallow, my contact app crashes as soon as I start searching / typing a single letter.

I already tried cleaning the cache, force stop and even system repair. The contacts app works fine for 2 or 3 days, then the same problem appears.

If I start the phone in safe mode, the app works fine and this also lasts for 2-4 days (in normal mode).

I already thought, it might conclude with the missing sync feature of the present facebook android app, because facebook disabled connection / sync with 3rd party apps.

Anyone facing the same problem?

Yeah, but how much contacts do you posses?

100 contacts... Or 1000 contacts... This can be the problem.


And if you use Greek, there might be a problem with the difference with "I" and "İ". This is annoying for most Turkish people. "ı" isn't accepted in most software. Please look if some of you contacts have a name like "Sıssy" where it should be something like "Sissy". This changes all.


As I said, this is kind of problem with most software and the tricky part is the difference in just "I" and "İ".


And which keyboards are you using. I use SwiftKey. Please try it with it, perhaps the keyboard might affect.

And Numbers don't affect, but names affect you say. This means, there's a real problem with Google synch.


But for reasons behind this I have a few speculations :

You all did a factory reset and it didn't work.

This means, there are some third party apps and settings, which seem to be broken, which got recovered.

The problem could be :

Google Account
Account names
Account number of contacts
Keyboard
Anti virus
Settings for permission like for Google Play Serviceses and more...


Because they work for me...

Perhaps we should wait for Sony to look into that issue or someone could post Screenshot while crashing.

  1. I deleted all but 88 contacts
  2. I do not have any non ASCII characters outside of the standard 0-127
  3. I used Google Keyboard. I uninstalled it for the Xperia International keyboard, to the same result.
  4. Numbers do affect. As soon as I type '5' for example into the dialer it crashes
  5. I do not have anti-virus installed, I remove all apps and did not restore from a previous phone. It was a clean install.

Hey sony don't censor what i put on the forum! You guys tolled me you don't cover my z5 because it's from overseas. You guys tolled me get it fix on my own

Okay I tested additionally the permissions for contacts, this won't allow you to phone without you giving permission.

I did already the same thing, and still the same, sony got to repair the software cuz something wrong went sony make the new software update. Is taking to long to fix this issue. If I had alcatel or some Chinese phone street makers I was not making any complaints but with the Xperia I got soo disappointed

Hello, 

I have a problem with my contact app. When I try to open some contact to see the number or to call him the message is red: "unfortunately, contacts has stopped" and I nither I can open the contact nor to call to anyone.

I sopke with perosn from Sony company and the send me email with the following staps which I did but the problem is still not fixed:

Click on Download Xperia™ Companion
 Run the software and install it 
 Open the program:
 1.      In the Main screen, the Software Repair process is initiated from the Dashboard, where you will see different modules available. Click on “Software Repair” to start. 
There are a number of requirements which must be met before the repair can take place. 
 
2.      After reading the on-screen requirements and device information, click on “Next” to continue.
 
3.      Xperia™ Companion will advise of Google Theft Protection risks. You must acknowledge that you know your Google account details before proceeding. If you know your Google account details, click on the check mark and “Next” to continue.
 
4.      The program will issue a message warning you that all locally stored data will be lost during the process. Click on the check mark and then “Next” if you understand and wish to continue.
 
5.      After that, Xperia™ Companion will download the Update Engine application. This application will run in the background and you will see the progress of the Engine download in the top right of the screen. The service will continue automatically when the download has completed. The time to download the program will vary depending on your internet connection speed.
 
6.      Once the Update Engine has been installed, you will be prompted to connect the device. You must follow the steps for Xperia™ Companion to detect the device.
 
7.      When device has been detected, the application will automatically move to the next step. This is the final stage and last option to cancel the process. Click “Next” if you wish to continue.
 
8.      Xperia™ Companion will now download and transfer the updated files to the device. The time to complete the repair process will vary depending on your internet connection speed as the updated files are downloaded. The downloaded files are then applied to the connected device. It is important that the device is not disconnected at this point.
 
9.      When the repair has been completed Xperia™ Companion will continue and confirm a successful repair. Click on the “Done” button. 
 
When completed, Xperia™ Companion will navigate back to the Main screen/Dashboard. You may review the process by clicking on “Software Repair”.
 
Note: If you wish only to update the unit just click on “Software Update” on Xperia™ Companion main screen and follow the on screen instructions.


Please help me because I can't fix this problem.
 
By the way I tried also:

clear the cash and to stop the contact app but nothing.

I have the same problem.  Tried resetting, tried safe mode, tried forced stop.  None is working.  Called customer support twice same answer used software to reset phone.  after several attempts and hours problem remains.   Sony does not seem aware and the only solution they give is to do a software repair which does not work.  I have tried three times now.  Getting very frustrating have gone to satisfied to very unhappy with the product and considering switching back to Samsung.
