Contacts stock app crashes

Hi there,

Since I updated to marshmallow, my contact app crashes as soon as I start searching / typing a single letter.

I already tried cleaning the cache, force stop and even system repair. The contacts app works fine for 2 or 3 days, then the same problem appears.

If I start the phone in safe mode, the app works fine and this also lasts for 2-4 days (in normal mode).

I already thought, it might conclude with the missing sync feature of the present facebook android app, because facebook disabled connection / sync with 3rd party apps.

Anyone facing the same problem?

For me this problem may have many reasons :

1.) Please check the Permissions of the contact app, because permissions have been added to Android since Marshmallow as far I know.

2.) When did the last time your Google account synced? You can look at settings for that.

3.) How much contacts do you posses in...

a.) Sim Card
b.) Google Account.
c.) In other apps, which gets synced

4.) Which accounts do you posses beside Google? Can you name them all?

5.) Which language do you use?

6.)Do any contacts have non Utf 8 comform names? Like : "#@€&amp;_-?()=+!':%/" "<br><br>Or Arabic or Turkish letters... as farr as I know most software has problems with such names...

7.) Which keyboard are you using?

I have the new software from two weeks now, and my contact app just still crushin.  I can't make any more phone calls ifis not in my contacts,  any number I press just close the app. I reset many times and still the same.  Who gat the same problem with xperia z5 premium dual??  What I need to do?

I looked at the SIM card, I'm no expert but don't see anything out of the ordinary.

There are a few contact for Simple Mobile, but I'm assuming that's not relevant since not everyone with this problem has the same network operator?

I believe it has something to do with the SIM card. I was traveling US and had my Ultra SIM in my phone, then my phone start having problem with the Contacts app keep on crashing.

When I swapped the SIM card back to my original SIM then the problem does away.

I have not check it has something to do with the contacts stored inside the SIM as I do not have time to run the test. will share my finding once I have time.

Nah, didn't work. Tried a completely different SIM card and same thing - crash.

As said, please check contacts for non standard names, because most software tend to have problems with these kind of names.... This is something I see very much software...

I also did all the resting, on my z5. Contacts app still cashed. called sony about the warranty tolled me to. Not covered! Had the phone 30days. My z5 is from overseas.

It crashes in the dialer not in the contacts. If you cluck on the search name and start putting in numbers insted of names it does not crash. It crashes wgen the dialer looks up a name based on the number dialed. I have worked around the issue by downloading a third party dialer from the play store. But this bug is very annoying.. Also i have a lot of Greek characters in my contacts. Removed them all ans still the problem appears, so i too dont think it is a special characters problem

I have been having this issue - it is driving me insane. A phone that can't dial is useless! A true brick. As soon as I hit a single number in the dialer app it crashes.

I have reset the phone (full factory 4 times now). Each time it goes back to exhibiting the same behaviour. However, my test results - when I delete my google account from the phone (and there are NO other accounts on the phone, facebook deleted too & never was on there) -- then it works fine.

The only things I can think of that I've changed since it stopped working are:

1. Added a contact, I have since deleted it

2. Added a group, I have since deleted it

3. Possible that some 'other contacts' were added, but I deleted them ALL

= nothing fixes this , it almost certainly is bad code , bad sync with google side =

Please, issue a patch or something.

Same issue here. I have factory reset to no avail. There was an update avail yesterday. I was hoping it fixed it. No dice. SONY???
