Contacts stock app crashes

Hi there,

Since I updated to marshmallow, my contact app crashes as soon as I start searching / typing a single letter.

I already tried cleaning the cache, force stop and even system repair. The contacts app works fine for 2 or 3 days, then the same problem appears.

If I start the phone in safe mode, the app works fine and this also lasts for 2-4 days (in normal mode).

I already thought, it might conclude with the missing sync feature of the present facebook android app, because facebook disabled connection / sync with 3rd party apps.

Anyone facing the same problem?

Sony support USA has told me they're aware of the issue and are working on a fix...

I literally cannot place a call; I can receive; I can initiate a call from Textra, my SMS app; I can tap a favorite contact. But I cannot go to the dialer and select a number because that triggers a Contacts autocomplete lookup which in turn evokes the contacts app which crashes the dialer.

I can't tap on any existing contact, it'll crash the contacts app.

What the actual???? How is this still an issue. Phone us useless.

It has happened to me also.  I reset my phone and it still crashes the contacts and dialer.  I have a Z5 Compact using T-Mobile in the USA.

Contacts crashing on t-mobile sim card. When I try my friends att sim or no sim contacts work fine. Anyway to fix it? I have a z5 premium dual

Welcome to the community.

Try importing the contacts to your phone. Open contacts > 3 dots > Import > From SIM.

Tried it, still crashing. I also already factory reset and used Sony companion to repair software, still crashes.

Good temporary fix. I'm having the same problem. Wish Sony would hurry up with a proper fix.

I just installed the Software Update that was pushed out this morning. That seemed to have fixed the Contacts and Phone app.

Xperia system update version 32.2.A.0.253
