I'm new to the whole smartphone business.
I've set up Contacts synced with my Gmail account.
I also have a POP3 account set up under Email.
When I start a new email, the contacts available for selection are not the same as those in the Contacts app (or the Gmail app). Some contacts are missing in the email app.
I've deleted all contacts and re-synced, but the problem returns.
Can anyone help?

Richard, you spotted it.
I exported my contacts from Gmail and viewed in Excel. Fields all over the place, the result of merging contacts from past software/programme changes etc.
- I carefully edited one contact in Gmail, and exported that one contract. This gave me the correct template.
- Exported all contacts from WLM (my main email programme).
- Transferred the appropriate columns from the WLM.csv to the new Gmail template and saved as .csv file
- Deleted all contacts in Gmail
- Deleted all contacts on my Phone
- Imported the new template csv into Gmail
- re-synced the phone to new Gmail contacts. (note I got a sync error - I deleted the Google account and re-added it)
- FIXED!
So, not a Sony problem at all.
Thanks to all.
Open the phonebook > menu > filter
Is the phonebook the same as Contacts?
If so,I've tried all combinations of filters without success.
I notice that most of the contacts available in the email app have the word 'Internet' with them. Could the email app be syncing from somewhere else than the Contacts app?
That's quite odd, what if you transfer all your contacts to Google (on a computer) then sync with your phone?
You can also try to use, My Phone Explorer
I deleted the pop3 email account completely.
The contacts app remained unchanged showing all the correct addresses.
I then added the email account again and the reduced number of addresses was still all I could see in the email app!
It seems like my POP3 account is somehow associated with this smaller address list.
That's rather odd
Could it perhaps be that the email address in entered in the wrong field in some of your contacts? Open one of the contacts that you can't find under the email app, tap the icon to edit it and then make sure that the email address is entered under "Email".
