Hi,
I have seen this phone at carphone wharehouse UK with a good price, and it says SIM-FREE, yet since I don't use an UK sim card, I asked if the phone would work with other non-UK SIMs, I was told that they couldn't garantee it, because this phones are region locked.
Well I have never seen this, normally it's either locked to a carrier, or works with all (considering GSM compatible etc...)
Does someone have some info on this?
Cheers

Region locked sounds software based but not something I've ever heard of on mobile devices (network locked, sure, but region locked? Na...).
If its being sold as "sim free" then I believe any reason for it not working would fall down more to incompatibility ... Some devices have different hardware variants for different markets and as such may not support all frequencies in all regions.
My understanding is there is only one variant of the XZ1 Compact so as long as the device supports the frequencies your network uses then you should be good to go. Here are the XZ1 Compact frequencies...
4G (LTE): LTE FDD BAND 1, LTE FDD BAND 2, LTE FDD BAND 3, LTE FDD BAND 4, LTE FDD BAND 5, LTE FDD BAND 7, LTE FDD BAND 8, LTE FDD BAND 12, LTE FDD BAND 13, LTE FDD BAND 17, LTE FDD BAND 19, LTE FDD BAND 20, LTE FDD BAND 25, LTE FDD BAND 26, LTE FDD BAND 28, LTE FDD BAND 29, LTE FDD Band 32, LTE FDD Band 66, LTE TDD BAND 38, LTE TDD BAND 39, LTE TDD BAND 40, LTE TDD BAND 41, LTE TDD BAND 42
3G (WCDMA): WCDMA FDD BAND XIX, WCDMA FDD Band I, WCDMA FDD Band II, WCDMA FDD Band IV, WCDMA FDD Band V, WCDMA FDD Band VI, WCDMA FDD Band VIII
2G (GSM): GSM850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900
It's a fairly premium device so unless your network provider is using some kind of obscure set up you should be OK. You'll need to check with them (or maybe try googing it) to find out which bands they use.
