XZ1 Compact screen brightness unstable

Hi

I'm happy with my new XZ1 Compact, except the automatic brightness doesn't work in low light conditions. It basically changes the brightness so much and so frequently that it seems like the screen is flashing.

I've seen some online proposals to use third party brightness control apps, but what I really think is needed here is a software update from Sony.

If anyone from Sony sees this, when will we get this update?

I've done some research on this issue in XZ1 Compact Auto backlight not smooth thread. Forum members suggested that it became better with newer firmware, but I can't test that.

Updated everything and have the same issue. Can anyone help?

I never found a proper solution. I now use the third party app YAAB. It's not perfect and there is still some eratic change in the brightness at night, but it's better than the built in. I haven't tried to change back to see if Sony have fixed the issue. Judging from your post, I guess not.

On the latest software 47.1.A.12.75 it reacts to light change much slower. For example when you turn the lights in the room off it takes a few seconds for the brightness to drop down...Prevously it turned down instantly. So you will no longer experience the flickering from fast adjustments to brightness.

It is true that the update changed the speed of the flickering. It did not,  however, resolve the issue. The light is behaving like a slow wave now. Very ťiring for my eyes.
