XZ Premium cannot reconnect to WiFi after Oreo

Hi there!

After update to Oreo my XZ Premium (and my XZ1 Compact) sometimes (but not always) cannot reconnect to saved WiFi networks. Even if I go to WiFi settings and force it to connect via menu it still cannot connect. It connects smoothly after restart. Very annoying.

Another interesting bug is that sometimes it takes my phone quite a while to open address book. Restart cures this one too.

Any idea?

I notice something that when I use wifi hotspot on Z5 premium my XZ premium connects easily and does not disconnect very often. But when trying to connect to home wifi it takes too long to connect and it disconnects often then connecting failure. Sometimes it appears the wifi signal is zero eventhough the home wifi device is just 2-3 feet away from me. Maybe there is something wrong with the scanning of wifi network. Please Sony resolve this issue.

I found my particular issue. My xperia was always attempting to connect with the same IP to my router. I found that another always connected device was showing with this same IP. The conflict was not being flagged at all.

Once I reserved the up for my phone after turning off the other device....Boom lightning fast reliable internet again!

Hi, good point. I will try reserving an ip address to the phone and see it that helps. Although with the crapy Huawei TalkTalk supplied router that I've had to go back to using (due to line errors) may be another source of the problem.

Yep same here. Interestingly, I only have this issue on the 2ghz WiFi. It's fine at home because I connect to 5ghz and it works perfectly. But whenever I'm away from home, 90% of the time when I connect to a WiFi network it isn't 5ghz, so the signal drops constantly to the point where it's almost unusable. Have compared with other devices connected to the same network. The phone and/or Oreo are is definitely the issue here

I struggle with both 2G and 5G on my home network. The issue seems to be random and can go for hours without issue or several times in succession. Just disconnecting and reconnecting immediately resolve it but only temporarily.

Hi!

Same here we are using 2ghz wifi. And i also notice that when the internet is slow it disconnects and then hard to connect to the wifi network. Sony should fix this issue. It is so annoying when watching movies online.

Hi karlwaite,

The problem you have encountered also happens to me. It is really annoying when watching movies online and updating applications. Hope Sony will fix this issue as soon as possible.

Hi i have zxp single sin phone, for exactly a week, it strugles to connect to either of the two saved wifi networks (home and work), home is 5ghz\, work is 2.4ghz, both are secured, it updated to android 8.0 as soon as i fired it up the first time, there are no 3rd party wifi apps loaded.

the general feel of the internet performance is sluggish compared to the z5 that it replaced..

according to the blurb the wifi and general internet performance should be superior to the z5.

anyone any clues??
