Xperia XZ headphone jack malfunction

Hi, yesterday my headphone jack decided to start playing up. 

It started off saying it didn't detect either set of headphones. I cleaned the jack out(there was a bit of crud in there) and installed sound about, and now if it does work music comes through all distorted, can't hear vocals properly etc

Is this a software issue, or do I need to replace my headphone jack?

If you want to check if it is software, try the phone in safe mode and see if the same issue occurs. If it does, run a software repair using Xperia Companion.

If you are still experiencing the issue after the software repair then I recommend you contact your Local support team to arrange a repair.

Sounds like my headphone jack needs replacement...
