Mobile payment has already become the most popular and convenient payment method in China, and among many mobile payment modes, WeChat pay and Alipay are the top choices of people when it comes to shopping both online and offline. Of all the smartphones that are sold in China ,including Nokia, HTC, Samsung, Apple, Huawei, OPPO, VIVO, etc. , Sony Xperia is the only brand that's not applicable with WeChat pay and Alipay; its fingerprint module can serve nothing but one function, vis a vis unlock the phone, which is almost equivalent to functionless and inconvenient. This is one of the many reasons that Chinese consumers stopped favoring Sony Xperia smartphones. Without basic functions like fingerprint payment, localized T9 dialing, unwanted text message and incoming call shielding, the market performance of Sony Xperia smartphones has got caught in a vicious down-spiraling in China.
Does Sony Mobile ever intend to add fingerprint payment feature to its Xperia smartphones in China?
That's not true. If they want, Sony can make some changes in fact.
Not to someone else's app or its authentication methods it can't.
Has anyone actually contacted the app developers yet?
Because supporting it requires modifying the system, giving a closed-source component high-level permission and make SELinux almost useless. It's not Sony's fault, it's just WeChat and Alipay didn't follow the right way to support fingerprint.
Adding such feature will compromise the system's security in many ways. If Chinese companies like Tencent or Ali are not willing to use the standard Fingerprint API from Google and trying to load not-verified files into my device's firmware, I would rather not using their services. If Sony gives in to those companies I will have to throw my Sony phone away and find another company that truly cares about its user.
