The same post exists in the XZ Premium forum. Basically, usb tethering with linux computers is broken. Upload is fast, download is always less than 1mbps. ifconfig output shows many rx errors. This same behaviour was present on the OnePlus5 phone and was fixed via a software update.
It works fine on Windows.
Is Sony support aware of this issue and can we expect a fix in the near future?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I confirm that this is an issue also with the latest software update, 47.1.A.12.34
I've just tested with the latest version of Arch Linux, kernel version 4.14.9-1. Same problem as before.
slow download speed
ifconfig output is full of rx frame errors.
I also compared with my old Z5 Compact, that one works perfectly fine.
Is anyone from Sony reading these forums?
Hello, i could confirm the problem.
I have got less then 1Mbit/s from usb thetering under linux whereas on the phone it's 4G with 50mbit/s from test.
It's not related to computer.
On mine it's ok with a G5 a nexus 4, but not with the XZ1C.
On the same computer but under windows, it's ok, i have got the same download rate then from the phone.
So something on the rom is not well designed for linux, and does not really work on usb thetering.
I expect that sony could make something to solve this problem.

I've tested on both Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and CentOS 7.4.1708, both with download speed < 1 Mbps
How can an Android phone, which is running on a Linux kernel, has worst support than on Windows!!?

How can an Android phone, which is running on a Linux kernel, not supporting Linux OS properly!!? Shame...shame...shame
Just got firmware version 47.1.A.12.75, tested it with kernel 4.14, still slow and full of frame errors 😞
Same problem here.
Build number: 41.1.A.12.75
Running Ubuntu 17.10.
Max download speed 1,19Mbs (on USB tether)
will be using my Sony-E MK16i on 3G until this is fixed.
Fixed with 47.1.A.12.119
