Usb tethering does not work under linux

Hello,

I am not sure it's related directly too the phone, but i did not succed to make working the usb tehtering under Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.
I have tested on twice computer, and it alsways does the same.

So when i plug the phone on it, it charge and ask for the choice of charge only/file  explorer for the computer etc. And all works. I could explore the sd card etc. Everything is ok.
When i enable usb thetering, phone stop charging, and nothing more, on the computer no possibility to use the connexion.
Dmesg on the computer does not show any thing particular.

On the same computer, but under windows 10, if i use it it works.

I do not know if it's related too something in the rom that does not work under linux, or if it's related to ubuntu 16.04 that does not recognize the hardware of the xz1 c when in thetering mode. (and that could be solved by un upgrade of the version of ubuntu).

I had that, it's the first time that i have got this problem, my previous phones (nexus 4 and G5) works without any problem on usb thetering in original rom and custom rom.
Perhaps it's related to udev that does not know the device when thetering?

Hello,

I have try to add udev files, but that does not work, i see nothing particular that could explain that.
I have got nothing on the dmesg, nothing particular on lsusb.

I have try to turn off the phone and on again (reboot is not enouth sometimes) but it's the same.
I do not know what it does not work under linux. Does anybody have an idea?

Hi I had the same problem with my Xperia xz1 compact, this was the solution for me:

(I am running Ubuntu 17.10)

Use or favorite editor to edit /etc/network/interfaces
sudo editor /etc/network/interfaces
and add the following line
allow-hotplug usb0

then restart your computer or restart the network-manager.service
sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service

With the update, it seems that now it works, but it's really slowly!!
Less then 1Mb/s on usb, where as from the phone i am near 50Mbit/s on 4G.
