USB-PD support and USB 3.1 speeds

I have two questions regarding the XZ premium. There are already threads for them, but lack definitive answers.

My first question is does the XZ Premium support USB-PD (Power Delivery), which is a format of quick charging for usb-c used by devices like the Google Pixel and Nintendo Switch. The Snapdragon 835 is supposed to support USB-PD, but that was advertised as a part of Quickcharge 4,which the XZ Premium doesnt support, so its uncertain whether or not the XZ Premium supports USB-PD.

Secondly, I am trying to find out whether or not I should buy a USB 3.1 cable for my XZ Premium for data transfer. Theoretically USB 3. 1 should offer much faster data transfer, but I'm not sure whether or not the MTP protocol will be a limiting factor.

Any assistance on either issue would be greatly appreciated.

It supports both USB-C PD and USB 3.1 (at least gen 1). I've tested charging capabilities by a USB-C power meter and saw it charging at about 9V ~1.4A from the original macbook charger. Without PD the voltage wouldn't be higher than 5V, so it certainly supports PD. The cable that comes with XZP is USB 2.0. I've got about twice MTP speed boost with a USB 3.1 gen 1 (USB-A-to-USB-C) cable. Not sure about gen 2 support (don't have a gen 2 cable and another USB-C device with gen 2 for testing).

you do not need different cable other than that included in the box. Cable is just cable, there are no different ones for different USB speeds. As long as you will connect it to the port supporting USB 3.1 it will be working fine Slightly_smiling_Face

I can't say for sure whether XZP actually supports power delivery, but when I connect it to my PC, a pop-up appears asking me to choose action (you know, the one that says MTP connection/charging only/MIDI device and so on) and one of the options is "Supply power".

Have you compared the charging speeds from USB-PD and Quickcharge 3? Does it provide similar, if not better results?

Thanks for the info.

Actually I see a similar max power consumption from my QC3.0 charger (i.e. about 9V ~1.4A). But with QC3.0 I saw more variations in voltage. I didn't measure time for full charge and cannot say which is faster.

I see. Well, thank you for the help you have provided anyway.

Let me know if you ever find anything out about the comparison between the two.

It took 1h 45min to charge from 15% to 90% using macbook charger.

I'll repeat the test with QC3.0 next time.

QC3.0 and QC2.0 give exactly the same speed. 1h 45min to charge from 15% to 90%.

In all three cases the battery reached 50% in less than 30min.
