It's really down to the Sony or a Note 8 at this point, but all the crammed into the software side of the Samsung have turned me off to it. Also, fears of screen burn in and apparent slowdown over time. The Sony seems to have a much better software approach, and while the primary complaints seem to center around the camera in low light, other photos I've seen from the XZP are gorgeous. I couldn't give about the bezels at all, and like the sort of squared off shape (one reason I'd go with the Note over, say the S8+... the latter is just too round for my taste). How does the Sony screen fair in semi- direct daylight? Would having 4GB RAM put me at a great disadvantage vs 6GB? Are there any decent cases for the Sony out there (on an Honor 8 with a cracked-but-functional screen and had to chip finely shattered glass away from the back to regain use of the camera). Actually considered the Z2 Force just because of my seeming propensity to break screens, although to be fair it happened on my Honor when I was still a homeless heroin addict and with a weak case over it; I'm in a much better position to care for my things now.
Otherwise, if there are any other positives or glaring negatives about this phone, your insight is much appreciated. I do like that it would be unlocked (vs the Note, since I'd buy it thru AT&T for whatever deals they have). Curious if the XZP is expected to drop at all around Black Friday, or what sales have been like in the past. Or if waiting for something like the OP5T, or the U11+ that's rumored to be introduced in the beginning of November... but with all these phones I've been researching, I keep coming back to that Sony. Just looks really sharp and well- featured; I just want it to be able to last for a couple years of use. Thanks again for any guidance you guys can provide, take care.
It's good but still has its issues.
Here are the cons i've come across using this phone (i've had it for 1 year now, as of September 2017):
#1. 2% of the time experienced graphical issues, static like screen which caused the phone to further crash and ultimately restart. Was okay after that though.
#2. All of the time now, issue with Internal Storage (this was not an issue at the beginning) recently after an update i am unable to take pictures or videos using any app on the Internal Storage. Can only save to SD card, but can manually move them fine afterwards. Yes i do have enough space available. I have spoken with developers about this but not much was done, i had to dig into the logs myself to figure out it is a permission issue.
#3. Battery life isn't that great, doesn't really last you for more than a day if you don't use it so much, 2-3 days with almost no usage if you're lucky, start using it and you'll get maybe about 4 to 5 hours on it. With a phone with so many great features, i'd put a battery of at least 3700mAh, 3230mAh maybe not so great.
#4. OS not very customisable. I am a fan on CyanogenMod and Rooting, Android should be open to all, or at least put more effort into giving the user the ability to make their device unique without requiring all the additional expertise.
PROS
#1. On a positive note i think the hardware is really good in this phone, processor, RAM and storage (you can always add an SD Card), camera (4K yes it's bad in low light, but come on 4K in a phone at this price with 960fps!)
#2. Call audio and video quality is very good, never had issues during phone calls. Mainly depends on your internet connection as well, but provided you are good with that, the phone won't complain.
#3. Security is very good on it, i haven't attempted to crack anything on this particular one, mainly because it's still under warranty. But previously i had a Sony Xperia M4 Aqua, and with the Xperia Lock feature, yes i was able to reset, format etc, maybe bypass Google FRP, but i could not get past the Xperia Lock feature, i tried so many things. Software, methods everything i could think of. This was over a year ago though so maybe there's new things out that i don't know about.
Note 1: Please keep in mind i have not excessively tested the boundaries of this phone, i don't use it in water, nothing is cracked on it, i have a screen protector and anti-shock case. I take very good care of my phones. Additionally no further modifications have been done by me, such as rooting etc. Which is a shame because it could be so much better if it didn't void the warranty.
Note 2: Yes i realise sometimes it's recommended to reset your phone to fix these issues, but it's really inconvenient to put all these things on your phone and have everything in a nice little order, to know that within a year, if not months, you'll have to start from fresh again.
