i just attempted to send a long message to someone on my XZ1 but when i sent i got an error saying "service not activated on this network" after a quick check as to why it seems the app has converted it into an MMS.
im sure back in 2003 this sort of feature would have been great when texts were 12p each but now most of us get SMS for free while if your network still supports MMS it likely comes at a cost of about 30-50p, so at this point this "helpful" feature serves only to lead people on contract to have an unexpected stack of charges on their bill should the network actually support MMS
Worse still on investigation there is no way to disable this feature at all.
Please can someone have a little sense and remove this absurdly useless feature thats a remnant of the dumbphone days as there is absolutely no reason for it to exist on a smartphone, especially in 2019

I understand your frustration, for some reason the preloaded app will make any long SMS into an MMS, there's a way around it, use a different Messaging app. I'm not sure if this is on Sony or Google/Android, but do send your feedback to Sony >>> https://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/contactUs/

its down to the sony messaging app, it was a standard feature on most years ago but in those days it was minimal hassle to root your device and mod it out, sadly these days rooting comes with more drawbacks as it often interferes with banking apps etc, yes there are ways it can be hidden but sadly these days modding a phone is usually more hassle than its worth.
id say ill switch the app soon but i think im likely going to upgrade soon and chances are pretty high itll end up being a motorola rather than a sony next time around as battery life is probably my major requirement
