Smart Lock empty after update

Today I had to update the Android software on my 10-days old (new ;)) telephone. Since the update the Smart Lock option doesn't work anymore. When I tried to figure out what was wrong I discovered that the Smart Lock screen is empty. The options I saw before are gone. So I cannot set Smart Lock anymore. Am I the only one with this problem? Does any of you know how I can fix this?

This works!

Thank you to those who took the time to give a solution

This issue is a testament to incomopetence and stupidity at Sony's Mobile Division and why they keep losing market share in the US and abroad. I've reported this issue to its tech support (a call center in South America where half the people don't speak English correctly) and on this forum.

The hack found by one of the users is NOT A SOLUTION. A solution would be for Sony to actually solve this problem, but due to incompetence and laziness and poor communication between their customer service department, they still have not solved this matter.

If someone could relay this message to a senior member of Sony's staff, that would be very helpful.

Sony's Mobile Division is a disgrace to the Sony brand and should either be sold or all its managers fired and replaced with competent individuals.

Something this simple is a matter that Sony has not been able to resolve. Turning the Trusted Agen off every time someone needs to reboot their phone manually and having to turn it on every time they turn it on, is idiocy. That's not a solution. A solution is for Sony to solve this problem in collaboration with Google, but because of incompetence and stupidity, they have not done this yet.

We don't need 3-D scanners assholes. We need a customer service and tech support department that is responsive to our needs as customers and you are not. Why don't you fix your tech support before coming up with some gadget that no one uses like 3-D scanning or Slow-mo video.

If you can't get basic tech support right, why are you even bothering with such activities?

Maybe we can get some attention another way.

Reviews!

I bought my phone from Amazon so I just updated my review to one star and explained the problem.

Feel free to go there and add to my review (one star PeteC).

Where else can we post reviews?

Could not agree more with what Mike_D has just said. It was just frustrating that one of those features that I value in a phone wasn't being fixed. Aside from that, the Sony phones are great, but that's a big minus. After a month of owning the Sony XZ1, I've sold it and moved on back to my trusty Samsung. Just get a Note 8, it won't disappoint.

I do get the feeling that Sony has lost interest in the mobile space. Their market share has been dwindling for some time and I think their inability to fix issues (WiFi, Bluetooth, UI software bugs such as the alarm, not turning on Oreo features such as nightlight, loading the device with crap like booking.com) and their blurred vision of what customers actually want (read the pages of XZ2 Compact complaints around them making it bigger and removing the headphone jack as an example) almost feels like a way of Sony being able to bow out ('the demand is no longer there).

I think the idea of having a compact device with top spec is awesome and not an area of the market anyone else (using android) seems to have tapped but people will only put up with so much. Certainly if LG or Samsung released a sub-5 inch screen high spec model I know I'd be tempted to jump ship at this point. You simply should not have to reboot your device several times a day to maintain a usable device.

It's disappeared on mine now, just sent feedback via the Google settings. Google really need to be aware that Sonys modification of android is interfering with core Google services, same as video playback broken on the Z4 tablet since September security patch

So what was the fix?

I tried rebooting in safe mode, sacrificing a goat, resetting all the app permissions, nothing worked.

I'm using Trusted Face since the fingerprint unlock is disabled on the US version.

This never fails to work for me.  And I have to do it every day or so.

Settings. Lock screen & security, Trust agents.

Disable Smart Lock (Google).

Then reset the phone.

Then same steps as above but this time enable Smart Lock (Google).

That's all folks.

right. i liked Sony but they are terrible on support. If SAmsung or any other brand jump on the Compact Hi End device, then i will change immediately.

The drop on sales is directly related on how they treat their customers + No new surprise effect phones that barely confronts Hi end devices from the other brands.

The trusted agents-disable/restart/trusted agents-enable thing is working for me. Now I only need a fix for the broken video playback on the Z4 tablet .....
