Since i have the new Update the side volume keys control only the media sound (always even if i am not playing media or music)
When I need to increase the in call ring sound, i have to go in the setting in order to change the ring tone volume
This really a problem
Not every modification is an improvement.
Not every interface is logical.
This time Google's developers of Android Pie have developed something very smart to enhance the user experience.
Only this time they didn't have normal users like you and me in mind. (I guess)
Apart from the behavior you mention there is also this posibility of quieting the device once you are in a meeting or on a funeral or whatever and you suddenly are becoming aware of your phone's potential to wake up the whole world around you.
At that moment you should be able to discretely reach to your phone, push the vol-down, wait for the device to vibrate and rest assured that it won't disturb you and your surroundings.
This is just what the developers of Pie forgot. (which is proof that they lost contact with the everyday world)
Hi @Norah848, welcome to our forum!
This is the standard behaviour for the volume control in Android Pie and can not be changed, so if you want to adjust the ring and notification tone volume, tap the volume up or down button > tap the cogwheel at the bottom of the volume slider and here you can adjust it.
I hope that answers your question!
There's a workaround for the people who want to control ringer and notification volume when pressing the volume buttons. Simple install Button Mapper v0.73 APK, grant it accessibility permission, then map your volume up button to "Volume up" and volume down button to "Volume down". This will make the volume buttons control ringtone and notification volume by default and you'll see 2 sliders on-screen: one for ringtones and the other for media.
Note: DO NOT install later versions of this app, you'll find this feature requires a paid subscription (unless you want to support the developer, of course).
