I got a new SD card Samsung EVO Plus 64GB. The telephone recognized it. The camera and all file managers can use it.
But Google Music, Google Maps, Netfix, Amazon Prime Video can not use the card!
At first it shows up in these apps but was not usable. Google Music crashed, Maps could not download to it. But then the update 47.1.A.12.34 came and now I can not see the card in these apps anymore.
Does anyone else has problems using SD card to stor application data?

@uliwooly
It's a Sony made issue...this problem emerges through the encryption process of the sd-card within the phone.
Only solution is to reformat the sd-card with a pc, do a firmware repair via companion and start the phone with the sd-card but do not encrypt it.
Hello!
I have the same problem. Most Apps can only read from my SD card but not write anymore. This includes Spotify, Audible and some others.
ES File Explorer can access the card normally (read and write).
Started after the January Update.
Apparently there exists the same problem with the xz1c...

Only solution seems to be a factory reset with the SD card inside and then reformatting.
This is a very poor solution for me because I refuse to do a factory reset everytime an update introduces new bugs. At least as long as there is no complete backup solution including all apps and settings thereof.
I would really like Sony to fix this soon. Way more annoying then the always on GPS icon.
Those aren't Sony's app, you should report the issues with the app developer as your phone detects and can use the SD card.
Are you serious?
Some of the most common apps from diverent companies does not work on Sonys flagship phone and I should ask Google, Amazon and Netflix at first because it is not Sonys problem?
Very disadisappoin...
Thank you, this sollution worked but takes some hours.
Now I can use the SD card at all apps.
