Hi @CV11, let me see if I can help out here.

In Android 9.0 (Pie), the volume keys will only adjust the media volume. This is different from previous versions of Android, where ringtone volume was the default setting.

There is no way to change this setting in Android Pie. However, there is a toggle button for the three ringer modes just above the on-screen volume slider, which lets you turn the ringer off and on with a single tap. During calls, the volume keys will adjust the speaker volume for call audio, and the on-screen volume slider will show an additional column for this.

There may exist apps in Play Store that allow you to change the mapping of the volume keys. Do note though that Sony cannot guarantee the performance of any apps manufactured by a third party.

I hope that answered your question!

Hi Martin,

Thank you for your reply, its a shame that Sony rely so much on Android now as there have been a lot of great functions benefitting ease of use which have been lost in what is called an 'Upgrade'!

Toggle switch is fine and surprized I didn't spot it.

Thanks again.

Hi @MPupa,

Have you tried testing the functionality of the volume key in the support app? To do this, find and tap Settings > Support > Xperia Tests > Volume keys.

Another thing that you can try is to reboot your phone in safe mode to see if the volume keys work better there. All apps downloaded from Play Store is temporarily deactivated while in safe mode and by doing this, you can see if this behaviour is caused by a downloaded app. For more information on safe mode and how to use it, click here.

Try these measures and let me know how it goes!

Hi, thanks for the answer. Just tried the testing, but it was no respond on both up and down. Tried also to safe reboot.  Does not work..

Please advice

Thank you @MPupa for the quick reply.

In that case, since the phone is recently bought, I believe that it is best to get in contact with the retailer in order to claim the phone as faulty or to get in contact with your local support team in order to have the phone repaired.

I hope that answered your question!
