My phone restarts for no reason + some other stuff

Hi. My phone restarts at least once a day. It can be when i`m connect to an bluetooth device or browsing instagram. First the phone slowns down, then the screen freezes and after a moment or five, it restarts. This is annoying as f...! I also have a problem some notifications that won go away, there from android system and its about how some apps can show over other apps. Mcafee and du recorder wont go away. And last, is it not possible to double tap screen to wake up on this phone, and i cant get the smart screen function to woork! Its on and everything but it wont work.

Please help???

Just did a test for few days. Whenever I open whatsapp the phone will crash and reboot, while this did not immediately happen after I opened and closed whatsapp, however the phone would experience a guaranteed reboot after several minutes.

For another day I tried not touching whatsapp for the whole day. The phone did not reboot for a single time and worked perfectly on that day.

I'm pretty sure the problem is whatsapp right now, either it's the app's problem or the compatibility of the firmware to whatsapp.

I don't use WhatsApp and it's restarting so it's unlikely to be that. Least I can't relate the issue to any consistent use of any apps I have. Thought it was maps or Deezer in the afternoon at first but now it's restarting anytime of day with no indication of it being a specific app. It restarted twice yesterday that I noticed.

I did a quick Google a few days ago and found it's not just the xz1 restarting since the latest android update.

My phone restarts multiple times a day, too. Sometimes while my phone is connected to my car via bluetooth (hands-free). This was my first issue, right out of the box, nothing installed, new Google Account, etc. -> connected to my car then suddenly it has restarted.

But I think the mean reason before it slows down and restarts itself is launching the camera app or asking Google Assistant to do something (with "OK Google" command). This causes my phone to restart more than once a day.

My Xperia XZ1 is only a few days old. My Google-Account has been newly created (as mentioned above) and I don't have anything installed except: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook-Messenger.

I have the same problem as described here.  Phone starts to hang and then subsequently reboots.  I've noticed it happening after using the Google Assistant, and also sometimes when using the camera.  However other times it's just in my pocket and reboots.

Thought I'd ask sony directly  for their help seeing as they haven't bothered to comment here. Anyone else already tried these crazy suggestions....  Restart a phone that restarts itself?! This is no help to me. Let me know if it any of these suggestions help any of you though!

Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.

we are very sorry to hear that you are facing some issues with your sony xperia device, kindly find below the troubleshooting steps that will solve the issue for you:

Try these methods one after the other. Verify after each method whether the problem was solved, before trying the next one.

  • Restart the device.
  • If the device hangs or freezes and cannot be restarted normally, force the device to restart.
  • Remove and re-insert the battery (if removable), the SIM card and the memory card (if present), then restart the device.
  • Make sure that the proximity sensors located at the top of the display are not covered (by, for example, a hand or a screen cover/protector).
  • Make sure that the proximity sensors are clean.
  • Delete any task killer apps or app managers that have been installed. These kinds of apps may cause the device to hang.
  • To check if other kinds of apps are causing the problem, start the device in Safe mode. In Safe mode, the phone only starts with pre-installed software and apps. If the phone performance improves in Safe mode, it's likely that one or more of the downloaded apps are affecting the phone negatively. You can then uninstall the most recently downloaded app and restart the phone.
  • Remove unused applications. If you frequently evaluate the amount of applications you have downloaded and removes the unused ones you can improve the performance of your phone and limit the risk of errors.
  • Update the Xperia™ device software using the Xperia™ Companion computer application. This may fix known software issues. If apps are causing the problem, a software update will remove all installed apps, which are not part of the device software. Make sure you back up all data before performing a software update.
