Hi, XZ1 Compact USA and every time I hang up a call it makes a loud BLOOP through the loudspeaker.
There is a similar thread in the xz1 premium forum. Their solution has something to do with snapchat. I have NEVER used Snapchat, nor do I want to!! I also went blocking a bunch of app permissions but didn't find any obvious culprits.
Sony - any solutions to this bug?
BEEP!
Ok, Booted into safe mode-
The hangup beep is now through the earpiece at normal volume, rather than blasting through the speakerphone. Is this lower beep normal behavior, or should there be no beep at all?
Rebooted back into normal (unsafe?) mode, and the loud BEEP is back at hangup. Here are my current apps permissioned for phone:
Contacts
Google Play services
Google Play Store
Messages
Microsoft Launcher
Phone
Support
...that's it. Perhaps identifying these Phone permissions is just a red herring for us?
Thoughts?
A beep signaling the end of a call is normal, but having it come through the loud speaker is not.
Because it is not happening in safe mode, it is likely being caused by a third party application rather than one that was pre-installed. There's no easy way to determine which one it was, so I recommend you start by updating all your applications, and then begin removing applications and testing after each uninstall. Once you have isolated the problem app, you can reinstall the others.
Based on absolutely nothing other than gut feeling (
) if you have any OTT calling apps installed (Skype, Viber, WhatsApp etc) maybe try uninstalling them first.
Cameron, I appreciate the response, but it seems that this is a Sony-Android problem.
If this were a broader Android or app problem, then we would hear about it all over those forums... but we don't, we are hearing about it in the Xperia forums.
I disabled the MS Launcher phone permission, no dice.
All that's left is a bunch of what appear to be system apps with phone permissions (see my list above).
Are you suggesting that one of my apps is somehow rerouting my phone speaker at hangup and routing it to speakerphone just long enough for that beep? I find this hard to believe that it's not an issue with the call app/beep functionality itself that is going haywire, perhaps being triggered by another app -but not due to the other app-, and it's a bug that Sony Mobile needs to fix.
My device is new and relatively clean otherwise.
Could you kindly escalate this? Thank you
Edited to clarify the MS Launcher -permission-
Edit Number 2: Ok I'm willing to back off that this is entirely specific to Sony's cut of Android. Perhaps it's a broader Oreo problem?

Android is a nightmare! There, I said it.
Damo, thanks, indeed I do have Skype, and I had thought about that even though it does not have phone permissions
But then I thought, the outcome of that test is useless to me because I need Skype whether BLOOP or no BLOOP
However, if Sony support acknowledges that this is a bug that they are working to fix and has some educated guesses, but dang it they just can't reproduce it in the lab, then of course, I would be happy to test uninstalling Skype for them!!
I don't use the other ones Viber or Whutsup or IMO (until I have to!)
Cameron, what's the good word?!
I would agree with you that the issue may be Sony related if the issue were also happening in safe mode. It may be that it only happens on Sony handsets, but because it is not happening in safe mode it has to be a third party app that was not already pre-installed on the phone.
It is not always a matter of denying certain permissions to resolve an issue, as applications can behave in unexpected ways sometimes.
I think @Damo_ might be on the right track, so I recommend take his advise and start with the apps he suggests.
Cameron,
As you, I, and Damo-kun(!) all suspected, that yes indeed, after I begrudgingly uninstalled Skype, the loud BEEP at hangup has disappeared.
How do you suggest we resolve this bug?
1) I reinstall Skype every time I use it, and then uninstall it again
2) Little old end user, me, goes around begging you/Sony Mobile, Microsoft, and Google to please for the love of all that is holy fix this bug on my brand new phone for me.
3) Awesome, #1 support staffer CameronT raises this bug with his development team, so that the Sony Mobile OS dev team (who has sold millions of handsets!) can properly resolve this bug with the Google Android/Oreo team, and also raise the bug alert with the Microsoft Skype team
What do you suggest?
Thank you
Have you tried re-installing Skype again to see if the issue returns? I only ask as I have Skype installed (and running) but don't suffer from this issue.
If not maybe try going into the App options (hold down on Skype icon then click App info) then Storage and click on Clear Data & Clear Cache.
