Japanese keyboard handwriting

When I had Xperia Z3, the built-in japanese keyboard had the awesome "handwriting" option as one of it's input methods (alongside Google voice recognition). It was actually surprisingly good at kanji recognition too. However after switching to XZ1 that option is gone. Has it been completely removed? Or is there some way of re-enabling it ?

I also have the same issue with my XZ1 Compact. It was perfectly fine in the Z3C model . There is no option to download  languages like Japanese and Chinese...with the handwriting options. The Swiftkey keyboard offers the Japanese key board but only typing through romaji letters.
