Finger print sensor is not working on wet or sweaty fingers

Finger print sensor is not working on wet or sweaty fingers

Hi,

I'm for the moment in Sydney, Australia, and here it is summer now. That mean that I really often get sweaty or go swiming.

But when my fingers are wet I can't open my Sony Xperia XZ Premium with the finger print sensor.

I have tried different fingers and they all work the same.

I even tried to teach the phone how a wet finger look. But then it didn't want to read that finger at all.

The same happen when I'm in the kitchen and get water on my hands. I have to dry my fingers really well with a towel before I can open my phone.

My other phone (not Sony) works perfect all the time.

Is this a HW error in my phone or have someone else seen this problem?

Cheers,
/Sören

I don't think it will work with moisture, and you should not use the fingerprint sensor while your fingers are wet:

"Before using the Fingerprint sensor, make sure the sensor is clean and without any visible moisture."

Thanks for the answer.

But this is really a problem when I'm out bush walking in the heat.

My whole body is sweaty and I can't open the phone due to moist on my fingers.

It works on my other phone all the time. Not a single problem.

The Xperia XZ Premium is locked and I have to wait till I'm back home so I can dry my hands on the air conditioner.

Was it really designed to work this way?

In the copied text I interpretate that it is the sensor that shall be clean and without any visible moisture

Cheers,

Yes, indeed. But wet fingers will make the sensor wet. Did you try using a tissue to wipe your finger dry before using the sensor?

Yes, I did that today without success.

When it is 30+ C-degrees and I'm out walking it come more sweat all the time. And the humidity makes it even harder to dry the finger.

After a few try the phone locks and say that I have tried too many times.

@Sören_Marödoren due to the sensitivity of the sensor any minor change in the shape of your fingerprint will cause it not to register your original saved fingerprint.

I suffer the same occoccasionaly & i live in Scotland!!!

One interesting thing is that i have tried to store a wet finger in the phone so it knows how that looks like. But the phone refuses to scan that finger. It says that it can't read it.

So it has nothing to do with change in shape of the finger.

Bit obvious but maybe use pin code to unlock instead?

And another bit obvious is to use another phone that have a finger print sensor that always works.

I thought this Xperia XZ Premium was a premium phone. Unfortunately it seems not to be like that.

Hey my fingerprint sensor worked for about two weeks. Afterwhich I get the same error regardless of how dry my fingers are. The technology is clearly unreliable
