Bluetooth volume issue after Pie

One of the more annoying issues that I have noticed since Pie is that the volume control of my bluetooth headset now regulates some kind of internal volume of the headset, while the volume buttons on the phone regulates the media volume. This has the effect that if the phone's media volume is set very low, raising the volume by the headset buttons will only get it to a certain level, and then make a very loud BEEEEP to indicate that I've reached the highest volume level of the headset. I'll then have to pick up the phone to raise the volume further.

Before Pie, using the bluetooth headset controls regulated the phone's media volume (at least when sound was playing in the headset), i.e. having the same effect as using the phone's volume buttons. Is it possible to return to this mode?

Some twiddeling back and forth with unpairing-pairing and rebooting seems to have fixed the issue.

Great to hear that you figured this out, but could you tell us if the volume issue was only through the preloaded music app or different apps?

It was for all media sound through the headphones. The media volume bar did not appear on screen when using the headphone buttons, and those buttons seemed to control some intrinsic headphone volume separate from the media volume from the phone (which I could control with the phone's volume buttons). This occured no matter which app (if any) I was currently using.
