Used Do No Disturb mode on this, my third Sony Xperia, expecting it to work as the previous phone did. Imagine my horror when a loud alarm went off in the middle of the Theatre, spoiling the performance for audience and performers alike. I was so upset by this that I left at the interval, so that was 2 very expensive tickets down the drain. Thanks Sony! In what a deranged world do your engineers live? It seems that 'Do Not Disturb' in Xpedia world means 'Do disturb expect for alarms and calls from my contacts!!!". Yes it's great to have those options but FFS make the default to turn everything off.
This is not the first piece of idiocy I have experienced with this phone. My confidence in Sony and its workforce has all but vanished.
Hi @georgey, I am very sorry to hear about this.
Since the transition from Android Oreo to Android Pie, the do not disturb-mode has been altered a bit. It still has the ability to mute all notification sounds and set exceptions for various notifications, however in order to do this you need to customize the DND-mode a bit.
DND-mode in Android Pie
In order to customize the DND-mode, find and tap Settings > Sound > Do not disturb. As you can see in the image above displaying the menu for do not disturb, you are able to set specific rules and exceptions for both calls and messages, as well as for notifications and alarms.
I hope that this information helped. If there is any further questions, do not hesitate to ask!
Thanks but I already worked that out. The point is that people need to be made aware of this before it bites them. If this is Google/Android's fault, they need to be called out on their arrogance and incompetence. It was bad enough having this happen in the Theatre, what if I had been at a funeral or needed to be quiet for reasons of safety?
There are things that Sony can do, even if they didn't initiate this insane default behaviour:
1) Raise the matter with Google. You must have some coprporate influence?
2) Alert your customers!
Go on. Show you can do something useful .
