Hi @rolst, welcome to the community.

Sony Mobile do not have any input into the development of third party applications so for assistance with your issue please contact the application developers.

I totally agree with you; but this is a factory-pre installed app from Sony, so therefore Sony should address any topics related to these kind of apps. You can not unistall it, just de-activate it.

It will be part of your particular firmware version but it is not on all firmware versions. It could be a network or region added customisation, but still not developed by Sony Mobile, it is developed by AVG Mobile, and only they will be able to make any customisations, changes or take feedback.

You can contact them from their Playstore page https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antivirus&hl=en

Hello,

yes it is not a global app on all XZ1c.
But even if I don't have issue with this app and neither check if I have it, my reaction is more about how Sony is handling this because I'm agree with the other point of view, who create these particular firmware with AVG software installed? Sony did it!
I previously had such software on previous Xperia every time bought directly and not through the phone operator so they do not modify the phone.
As you are not permitting to uninstall the software, yes it seems legitimate to say it's on your side at least for the time we cannot uninstall it!

My advice.. Bin It..!!!!

In my opinion for what's worth, is that AVG have completely lost the plot..!?!? They were once a great Antivirus provider but lately they appear to have simply given up on their customers.

They have so many different variations of a single theme they are pushing for mobiles, computers, tablets they seem to have lost their focus.. They would be better to have a single anti virus which covers all devices, running diffent OS's..

I was a big fan but since they are unable as yet to install their 'Ultimate' product on my PC, I have moved AV suppliers. It was also too intrusive on my Xperia so I've binned it on my Xperia too.. I'm slowly but surely removing AVG from all my devices and will ceratinly not be renewing my subscription with them.

That's my take.. Bin it and choose another AV provider..

I am also having this problem as well. I have a US Xperia XZ1 compact still on the latest US firmware. AVG for Xperia comes pre-installed and is unremovable, so I assumed that it would work flawlessly on this phone, especially when the app is called "AVG for Xperia". However, it asks me every other minute to give it permission to enable app-lock. I wanted to remove this faulty app, but it turns out that it can't be uninstalled.

I'm so confused why this app was included in the first place. It has compatibility issues, can't be uninstalled, how do I fix this app?

You can uninstall using ADB. Now im not suggesting that the average user can achieve this easily but it is possible. I uninstalled alot of the bloatware using this method (and no, you don't need root):

https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1-compact/help/uninstall-bloatware-method-application-t369...

The command you'll use specifically to remove the pre-installed AVG is:

pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.s.antivirus

Thank you very much for that info!

Tried this a few minutes ago for avg and kindle app, both are deinstalled but i can see them in the app list with information "not installed for user" - what does this mean?

app is still there but not in my user profile?

Right, you cannot really uninstall a system app.

It disappears more or less.

Some of them will be gone or of sight after a reboot.

When uninstalling don't use the -k option.

It leaves the data.
