Audio cuts out after a while

I play music all day at work on headphones on my XZ1C and it seems to have developed an increasing tendency to lose all audio after a while, where a while is typically more than an hour or two but isn't always the same. When the sound goes, the player controls continue as though they are still playing something, but there's no sound from either the speakers or the headphone jack. If I leave it in this state it will eventually produce a series of clicks or sometimes it starts playing something similar to static, but it does sound like it might be modulated by what ia actually supposed to be playing.

Whever this occurs, all sound on the phone is dead. I can coax it back into life by repeatedly pausing/unpausing playback, or repeatedly unplugging/plugging in the headphones, or more often some unscientific mixture of the two. It usually takes a few goes for this to stick, with the sound often resuming for a second or two before dying again. Rebooting the phone brings the audio back. Restarting the playback app does not.

I don't have any of the audio enhancements in Audio Settings switched on, nor any other software that I would expect to interfere with the audio.

I've had the problem with both Spotify and the Sony Music app, so I'm inclined to believe it isn't app-specific. It seems like the audio driver is crashing or something, and all my fiddling around with playback and headphones is mere distraction while it restarts, perhaps. However it's driving me mad and seems to be getting worse. Has anyone experienced anything similar? The problem has persisted across at least one system update.

Hi @Tim_L;

Probably it won't help but have you tried to see if the same thing happens in Safe Mode? If yes probably you should try a Software Repair with Xperia Companion.

Good idea - I'll give that a go although it could be difficult to be certain dafe mode isn't affected in safe mode if it doesn't happen there because it will be freshly booted there every morning, unlike my usual phone useage. Unfortunately I can't leave the phone in safe mode the whole time as it renders it a bit useless.

I have exactly this problem on an xz1 as well and would be very keen to find a solution. It is indeed very annoying. I similarly have a clicking noise happen sometimes that makes me s*** myself. It usually resolves itself it I restart the app a few times and pause/play a few times.

It happens on both amazon music and Spotify for me.

I have the same problem with mine! There's another anoying thing aswell when we're on the subject. When I start listening to music I have one type of sound, but after a while it changes and becomes less detailed and a bit lower. I don't have any sound enhancements on. Just a custom equalizer . Any thoughts ?? Thank's

@Magwik;

Does it happen when using headphones? In that case do you have by any chance Automatic Enhancement activated (in Settings >Sound >Acessories Settings)?

Hello.

Yes automatic optimisation was set as on. I have turned it of and will try it.

Thanks

It was turned off for me, so don't believe it will have been related to that in my case.
