Anyone knows how to use notification dots?

Hello everyone, 

I havent been able to figure out the use of notification dots that sometimes appear on app icons. Any ideas on how to utilize them?

Have one on instagram currently. Check the blue dot on the top right of the icon.

Correct me if I am wrong @uliwooly, but doesn't the application need to explicity support "notification dots" unless you are running Android 7.x or higher (Android 7.x natively supports this for all applications)?

What version of Android is your smartphone running, @gagge1000?

XZ Premium was released with Android 7.1

Well that probably explains the dots then...

I have oreo. It is a feature of android 8. 

 This is how they are supposed to work.. But for now they are only visually present without any functionality.

@gagge1000 only some launchers support showing notifications that way (Pixel Launcher, Nova Launcher, Lawnchair). I guess Xperia Home doesn't for now.

This is a bit funny but... Why does my middle menu circle is different? Is it just me... or...? I have the xz premium,  no custom themes, no custom launchers.

Are you using the Google launcher by any chance? I noticed that the XZ1's also seem to have the outter circle where the home button is... Why does the XZ's are different?
